There is a much lower than average poverty rate in Wichita, due to the higher paying jobs, availability of jobs and lower cost of living. The service industry is now 27% while manufacturing is 21-25% depending on who is floating the numbers and derivative trading on misdirection. Population has had steady increases with 13.% growth in the last decade, you can see the growth.

Sedgeway County has some 452,000 at last census meaning about 462K now. There are 19,600 apartments in Wichita. AYSO and Soccer are big in Wichita along with Baseball and other youth sports thus allowing for easy entry into community volunteer related services for our team to show our spirit. New Commercial Permits are down 50% over the past year. South Central Kansas Economic development had some of the best updated data we found, better than our tiger files and ERSI, census and overlay CD ROMs.

Enterprise Rent-A-Cars Wichita Chief Strategist with 2 satellite offices and 8 locations including a new airport office who met with us said they own that market which is good for us because they do need our services. We exchanged information about marketing to the various sectors and how we could assist each other. Finding a common thread in Jack, Enterprise Rent-A-Cars founder and purveyor of commitment and fervor and inspiration. We both agree he is a great leader and entrepreneur.

The market has other potential customers too, including four tour bus lines and 26 trucking companies. Rail Service is also there. Lowe’s just finished and opened another store to help contractors with the east end growth. We visited with Margaret Davis at the Chamber. She explained the significance of Old Town Center and Old Town Market Place a smaller version of Brick City that is the hit of tourists and locals in OKC. The chamber has some 1900 members and mails its newsletter to over 2700 VIPs. She agreed that the Derby area was a good place to wash cars as it is growing middle income. We talked with one older sweet lady who moved from Minnesota into Derby and found a real good buy on an older refurbished home so she could live by her daughter a crack marketing wiz for the number on Hospital in the region in charge of the entire department. Derby is building a pool for the community and that is one of the larger projects of the area, able to do it from the property tax base and higher than normal property taxes of the Wichita area.

We also discussed cool hang-outs and cars with one student from Butler Community College also studying Computer science to get a good job admitting after school they were o move to where the best job might be. Also Butler had several students hanging out at the coolest little fifties diner studying such things as Business Administration and Psychology so they could charge $50.00 per hour and going to transfer to KSU in Fall. Loni also told us of the fact that most students do stay after graduation in Wichita. They party in Padre Island during Spring Break and go to Aspen skiing and Breckenridge CO. They also go to the old town brick building area. Graham Central Station is the local bar hangout and most popular this year they have an interesting policy on Friday nights, if you are 18 you can go in and get you hand “X’ed” but cannot buy alcohol and must give them you ID and also get a wrist band. The other nights Thurs, Sat the place is packed. Everyone goes to the all night Starbucks afterwards or to Krispy Kreme. Park City is getting a new 55 million dollar coliseum, which is a middle-income growth area.

Even with a City like this a Brick Town concept or River Walk or both as they are doing seems to be a good way to keep the downtown area from becoming a ghost town and crime ridden. And it pays it’s own way too, in sales tax revenues, jobs and tourism in general. The River Walk and Brick City Type Concept Promotes Tourism, Local Money Flows, Employment, Increased Tax Base and Down Town Revitalization. The change to quality of life is significant indeed.

Timeshare Ownership has become one of the most popular ways to vacation and travel all over the world. Timeshare Ownership is the fastest-growing segment of the tourism industry. The American Resorts Development Association reported that there are five thousand resorts across the globe, and the USA has nearly two thousand Timeshare resorts with nearly four million owners. Timeshare resorts are found all across the world in popular locations near beaches, rivers and lakes, mountains and major cities like Las Vegas. Specialty resorts like adventure or gaming resorts are also available.

A vacation Timeshare is a form of vacation property ownership in which the benefits and costs of running the property are shared among the owners. Though the majority of Timeshare properties are condos or vacation resorts, houseboats, yachts, campgrounds and motor homes are also becoming popular.

Timeshare ownership helps to assure future vacations at today’s prices at luxurious resorts with amenities. Timeshare properties tend to be apartments with three or four bedroom and a dining area. Amenities like dishwasher, televisions and VCRs are provided. Kitchens are fully equipped.

Timeshare owners can decide to stay at their resort during the prescribed period, or they can rent out their period or use vacation exchange programs to travel to other popular destinations around the world.

On average, a resale is sold at nearly one third or two third the cost of what someone would be required to pay for when buying from the resort. Many websites provide information or even rent Timeshares. With such flexibility, Timeshare ownership makes the consumer the king. It allows vacationers to plan and enjoy vacations which suit their lifestyle.

Costume hire for fancy dress parties is a fun fantasy. When you attend fancy dress parties, you can be anyone that you want to be. Cinderella or Prince Charming are great fancy dress parties to attend when you costume hire, but the sky is the limit when you costume hire for fancy dress parties.

Fancy dress parties can be held for almost any occasion. Inviting guests to fancy dress parties with the host and hostess dressed in wedding garments is a wonderful way to surprise everyone with a wedding. It is a great way to throw the media off of the trail, too, if the couple are celebrities, heirs or other notables are dressed for fancy dress parties.

Costume hire is easy, you need only drop by, select and reserve your selection for fancy dress parties. Hot costume hire outfits for fancy dress parties include celebrities, sports figures, history makers and the like.

Costume hire fancy dress parties are often used for theatre productions, too. You will be able to fit every member of the cast from children to the elderly in fancy dress parties costume hire outfits. Costume hire fancy dress parties wear can be found for any period and for virtually every theme that you can think of. From the biggest shipping disaster to great literary epics, you will find everything that you need to recreate the fancy dress parties of the day. Costume hire fancy dress parties merchants are available year-round to supply the outfits that you need to make fancy dress parties a success.

Perhaps the most popular fancy dress wear comes from blockbuster films. With the final Star Wars Prequel in theatres, it is highly likely that Star Wars themed fancy dress parties will be the talk of the town. Other great movie inspired costume hire outfits are from the Lord of the Rings; Harry Potter; your favourite ogre, Shrek, Scooby Doo and super heroes like Batman and Spiderman.

Costume hire can include masks, so dressing up like royalty is another favourite for fancy dress parties. Now that Prince Charles has wed Camilla Parker-Bowles, you will continue to find their likenesses in costume hire shops. Of course, other members of the royal family are also popular with fancy dress parties’ attendees, but most want to be the prince or duchess.

Costume hire shops are always available for Halloween celebrations in October and you will also find Christmas costumes, too, but most fancy dress parties are not scheduled throughout the year. No matter what you are looking for in a given period or movie character, you will find the attire that you need to present your look at costume hire shops.

Ian Wide has produced many articles on leisure activities including some contributions for fancy dress.

It’s a trait that makes this present generation of Israelis one of the best-looking on the planet. Asian features combine with European physiques and produce tall, strong young guys and women who turn a hundred heads every time they walk down the street.

But what’s more noteworthy is the melting-pot of traditions that this marriage of ethnic backgrounds represents. Although technically all of the same ancestral descent, the lives of Jews scraping a few carrots from the frozen soil of Poland were hugely different to those seeking a living in the crowded markets of Baghdad.

Every family brought with it the language of their country in which they’d been living along with the cuisine, traditions and attitudes of the place too. Israelis of Polish descent have the reputation to be deeply materialistic while those from North Africa are said to share the unpredictable nature and bigheartedness of their Arabic hosts.

After more than fifty years since the birth of the state, many of these differences have subsided in the search for a national identity. The younger generation have little time for the past suspicions that existed between Jews of European and Arabic descent and prefer to think of themselves to be Israeli before anything else.

But what is an Israeli?

In the beginning everyone had their own thought of what it should be. The religious saw the return of the Chosen People to their homeland as a prophesy fulfilled and hoped that the synagogues might soon be filled with religious Jews. Others simply saw Israel as a place to escape discrimination and intended to carry on with their lives as before but this time in more thriving conditions. The same can be said for the 1 million Russian immigrants who swelled the population by 20%.

But if what John Lennon said is true then ‘Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans’ and perhaps we are as much shaped by our environment as by our own choices. And it seems to me that this is the case with the Israelis who spend most of their lives trying to fight for their right to exist. But their day to day struggles are not with the Arabs or Palestinians but rather with each other. And this is the first indication in understanding their national identity.

In lieu of an anti-semitic population to make their lives hell, the Israelis seem to intent on making life as taxing for each other as they possibly can. Whether in business, family or friendship, Israelis flourish upon stress and forever push for an extra inch. It’s almost as though it were some kind of national decision to keep everyone in fighting fitness.

The typical image of the Jewish mother is more than just a myth and the whole family will wield every last ounce of emotional blackmail to urge their children onto success. Countless times I’ve seen some smooth young guy in jeans, t-shirt and shades, hanging out on a street corner looking cool until he answers his mobile phone – his brow furrows, his eyes raise to the sky and within twenty seconds of listening to the rant of complaints from the other end of the line he raises one hand to the sky and shouts:

“Mother!” Of course the fussing only comes from a loving heart but it’s part of an Israelis education that if he wants to be heard he must yell. And not just in the home – an Israeli friend of mine described to me her first day at school when she moved to Israel as a child.

“There were thirty of us in the classroom and we were all very eager about our first day. The teacher came in and put twenty-five biscuits on the table. Then he invited us all to come and take one. Me and a few other kids didn’t push hard enough to reach the table in time and had to watch all the others enjoy their biscuits.

“‘You see?’ the teacher told us, ‘If you don’t fight for what you want in this life then you’ll end up with zero!’”

These lessons extend to the workplace and business. Israeli employers haven’t quite grasped the notion that workers deserve to be paid for the time that they’ve worked. One friend of mine waited two months to be paid for a weekend that she spent as a waitress in a cafe.

“Every time I called my boss he gave me some reason or pretended that the battery on his phone was dead. Finally I just walked into his office with a hammer in my hand.

‘Either you pay me now,’ I told him, ‘Or I’m gong to smash every window in this place!’

He gave me this very disillusioned look and told me that he’d have to pay me out of his own pocket – like I could care less! But I got my money.”

So this is possibly the first part of understanding the people : Israelis are people who fight for what is theirs. And boy, do they know how to fight.

Honolulu is one of the most popular destinations in Hawaii and is a major city, being located at the far end of Waikiki. The main tourist hot spots in Honolulu are the downtown district – the Pacific Region’s main financial and business center, and Waikiki, the heart of Honolulu. Waikiki is known for its narrow sandy beach area, which has become one of the world’s most notable beaches, lined with many excellent shops, restaurants and accommodation.

Located on Hawaii’s Oahu Island, Honolulu is full of things to see and attractions to visit. Dominated by the imposing Diamond Head volcano, which is now extinct, Honolulu is known for its tropical landscape, palm trees, harbor, nearby islands and the Mamala Bay, where a range of water sports are on offer.

Honolulu Travel:
With a large population and many spreading urban areas, traffic in Honolulu can become understandably busy, particularly due to the cluster of one-way streets. There are a number of car parks and on-street parking areas in central Honolulu, and car rental is widely available. Renting a car in Honolulu is one of the most convenient ways to explore the island of Oahu, although other popular methods of transport include buses, coaches, taxis and even bicycles.

Honolulu International Airport (HNL) stands around 4 miles / 6 km from the center of the city and is an important transportation hub. Many passengers arrive each day at Honolulu Airport from mainland America, London and other nearby Hawaiian Islands. With three terminals and a range of facilities, the airport is just a short trip from central Honolulu, with a number of hotels nearby.

Places to Stay in Honolulu:
Honolulu thrives on tourism and there is a huge range of accommodation throughout the city. Hotel rates in Honolulu are often high, although a selection of budget options do exist, namely bed and breakfast accommodation, which is usually well presented. The American Youth Hostel in Honolulu offers extremely inexpensive rooms and is always popular with budget travelers visiting the city.

At the opposite end of the scale, Honolulu is home to a wealth of luxury hotels, often with simply breathtaking coastal views and convenient locations. Some of Honolulu’s premier hotels are amongst the best in the world.

Honolulu Tourism:
Tourist attractions in Honolulu are excellent and apart from the endless stretches of golden sands, there are plenty of things to see, making Honolulu the ideal holiday destination. Facilities include landmarks and monuments, historical museums, contemporary art galleries, must-see sights, and a large variety of recreational activities.

Top attractions include Aloha Tower Marketplace, Honolulu Zoo, Iolani Palace, the Aloha Tower, Diamond Head Lighthouse, the State Capitol Building, Hawaii Maritime Center, the Hawaii State Art Museum, and the Battleship Missouri Memorial at Pearl Harbor.

Honolulu Restaurants:
There is an incredible diversity of restaurants and places to eat throughout Honolulu, reflecting the ethnic communities and locals. Look for the restaurants where locals in Honolulu choose to eat, such as those around the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where you will find an array of affordable cafes and food outlets. Also, the food court in the Ala Moana Center is particularly well stocked.

Honolulu Weather:
The weather in Honolulu varies only slightly all through the year, with constant temperatures reaching the 70s and 80s. Honolulu features two main seasons – April to November, which is slightly warmer than the period December to March. The surrounding ocean remains warm throughout the year and is one of Honolulu’s main attractions.

In Europe, the hub-and-spoke mode of operation has an even longer history than in the US, having grown out of the past regulatory framework and of the prevailing geographic and political conditions, rather than as an autonomous market process. Each nation has had its own flag carrier, with a privileged position in and around its domestic market and frequently a large government ownership share. More often than not, flag carriers have been benefiting from considerable amounts of subsidies or direct financial support from the state.

The airport of Rome capacity constraints and the slot allocation regimes with the practices currently in effect in Europe, constitute major barriers to entry and hence to competition and economic efficiency.

However, the Eternal City in 1961 decided to add to the name Fiumicino (that means ” small river channel – because the airport is located at the end of the Tiber River ) the name of Leonardo da Vinci, in memory of the most brilliant genious mind that Italy ever had.

At Leonardo da Vinci, the airport operator, Aeroporti di Roma, is spending a lot of money in expanding and upgrading terminal facilities to meet the needs of growing traffic numbers and shaking off the airport’s rather modest reputation.

There are now three terminals one of which, Terminal C, is linked to a satellite. The handsome new Terminal A is for domestic flights and replaces spartan facilities. Terminal B, a light and airy place, has a dual role handling international and a number of domestic services. Terminal C is located near the major international flights and is connected to satellite C, a mini-terminal in its own right with a full range of shopping, catering and other services.

International passengers will find the satellite a big improvement on the old days when the only way to reach the aircraft steps on many flights meant a bus ride. Despite all the money spent on the satellite, however, the risk has not entirely been removed. Three of the 14 gates are still the prelude to a bus journey to a parked aircraft. How did that happen?

The satellite is connected to Terminal C by the “Skybridge” automated rail shuttle, the first of its kind in Italy, and there are plans to extend the service to the rest of the airport. That will be welcome news for those who have tramped the endless walkways – the moving walkways are only a partial help – which link the terminals.

New shopping and catering areas have been introduced in Terminal B as the plans to sharpen up the image and quality of Rome’s major airport gathers pace.

You don’t need a $40 Easter egg decorating kit with pages of instructions to impress your family and guests this Easter – achieve sophisticated elegance with colors taken directly from nature. Simply decorated from a myriad of plants and flowers, you can create a beautiful range of natural colors and textures. Try this technique – it’s simple enough to do with young children.

Ingredients

Gather together eggs, an enamel or stainless steel pot, vinegar, cheesecloth, a rubber band, and plant materials such as onionskins, blueberries, pecan hulls, parsley, beets or dandelions.

Directions

1. To prepare the dye bath, fill a pot with two or three cups of plant material. Barely cover it with water (more plant material produces stronger colors.) Simmer for at least 30 minutes. Add water and stir as needed. The dyes can be made several days in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Strain and heat the dye before using it.

2. Use hard-boiled or blown out eggs. Carefully wash the eggs with soap and water. Allow them to dry. Wipe the eggs with vinegar.

3. To decorate the eggs, moisten small leaves and grasses, one at a time. Press them firmly against the egg. Hold them in place by wrapping the eggs in a six-inch square of cheesecloth or nylon pantyhose. Pull the cloth tight against the egg and secure it with a rubber band. Immerse the egg in a container of warm dye. Some dyes are stronger than others. The process may take only a few moments or several hours. Dyes derived from yellow onionskin, red onionskin, and blueberries all provide quick results.

4. Unwrap the eggs, drain, and let them dry upright.

What a magical and unpredictable process. Each lustrous egg is a unique surprise. Some of our favorites were the results of happy accidents. Enjoy discovering!

As the snows recede across Eastern Europe and the warmth of the Mediterranean pushes northwards into Hungary, Budapest celebrates in style with its annual Spring Music Festival. Now moving into its twenty-sixth year, the festival is a collage of music, art, dance and opera that captivates audiences from around the world.

In 2006, the Budapest Spring Festival opens on March 17th, the theme being the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart, and the 125th anniversary of the birth of Hungary’s own Béla Bartk. Both composers will be celebrated flamboyantly through exhibitions of their work, recitals and concerts. Some of Mozart’s most impressive operas are also to be performed, including the ‘Marriage of Figaro’.

Folk Music to Rock n’Roll

The Classics, although taking centre stage at the Budapest Spring Festival, by no means have the Festival all to themselves. There are jazz nights, folk nights and even exhibitions dedicated to the rise and rise of rock n’ roll. With so much to see and listen to the Budapest Spring Music Festival really is a festival for people of all ages and music tastes.

Getting to the Budapest Spring Festival

Budapest is the capital of Hungary, and as such is easily accessible from most of the world’s main airports. Budapest airport is also on the budget airline network in Europe. Cheap flights direct to Budapest are therefore available from many locations, including the UK.

It is important to note that Budapest airport is 16kms outside the capital itself. Booking transport in advance is therefore essential for a hassle-free transfer to the city. Car hire can be booked in advance for pick up at the airport – see http://www.your-carhire.com

Close your eyes and imagine a Caribbean vacation. Done? The images you called to mind probably contained pristine white beaches, aquamarine waters, and plenty of palm trees. Fortunately, the Caribbean is full of enough beautiful beaches to satisfy every traveler, but there’s much more to the islands than just beaches – which is good news for travelers who want their trip to be more than just a day at the beach.

While some islands are, indeed, known for their beaches, others, like Saba, hardly have any. There’s a whole world of activities in the Caribbean; it’s just a matter of knowing where to look. Learning a bit about some of the islands can help you get a feel for the many differences you’ll find here.

Basic Island Differences

Surprisingly, weather can be quite different from island to island, as mountains, the trade winds, and even geographic location can cause some subtle and not-so-subtle differences. Islands such as Aruba are seemingly an anomaly – cacti and aloe grow more readily than fragrant hibiscus in its desert climate. Meanwhile, islands like Puerto Rico offer mountain hikes to adventure seekers, as well as cooler temperatures high in its ranges.

Culture can be another important difference among islands. If you’re looking for a taste of Paris alongside a bit of tropical sunshine, turn to Martinique and the other French West Indies. Travelers can also enjoy islands where Dutch colonial style still reigns in the Netherlands Antilles, or take tea in the British West Indies. Some islands have been territories of many nations throughout their history, and the cultural mix can be delightful.

Activities, though, can make or break a vacation. There are plenty of natural sights to see, both above and below the waves; mountainous peaks rise high into the sky, and historic buildings attract many visitors. Cultural festivals like the famous Carnival are also popular draws to these islands. However, when you’re looking for activities, it’s important to make the right choices.

Place-by-Place

Jamaica attracts many visitors each year to its popular resort towns and beaches. Whether you’re heading to Negril, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Kingston, or somewhere else entirely, Jamaica has plenty of culture to offer. Golf on the grounds of a former plantation or explore its famous Blue Mountains. There’s plenty to see and do on land. And, of course, who can forget the food and crafts? Still, avid snorkelers and divers may leave this island feeling a little disappointed.

Cancn is the ubiquitous spring break vacation spot for most college students. But many people don’t know that the surrounding areas have plenty to offer as well. Cancn may have gorgeous beaches and plenty of nightlife, but Cozumel offers incredible underwater sights to dazzle intrepid divers. The area known as the Mayan Riviera includes secluded spots like Playa del Carmen, which many families love, while Tulum hosts larger than life Mayan ruins.

A popular spot for cruising as much as any other kind of travel, The Bahamas has plenty of popular ports and beaches, but crowds in the cities can be too much for some travelers. The Out Islands, however, are some of the most popular areas for vacationers looking to escape the crowds. Whether you’re off to see Ernest Hemingway’s Bimini, enjoying the hustle and bustle of popular cities like Freeport, or sailing and fishing between any of the islands, The Bahamas a great spot for a unique vacation not far from the Florida coast.

Puerto Rico has plenty of advocates as well, since it offers travelers everything from mountain vistas to a bit of diving and snorkeling. It’s best known for its history and its rainforest. While Old San Juan is popular, visit Ponce on the southern coast for something a little different. El Yunque, the only rainforest in the U.S. National Parks system, is a good stop for nature lovers. Shopping, casinos, and nightlife are all important aspects of San Juan’s popularity, and don’t forget to spend a bit of time at one of the beaches as well.

Island Groups

Get ready to sail when visiting the Virgin Islands. Whether you’re planning to stop in at the U.S. or the British islands, you’ll find crystal clear waters and plenty of sites. St. Thomas offers shopping; St. Croix features historic Dutch buildings; and St. John is home to a wildlife preserve. Snorkelers and divers will find beautiful sites in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The British Virgin Islands are much more secluded, and locals welcome vacationers with their warm smiles and British hospitality.

Travelers who want another taste of something British can stop in at Barbados and have afternoon tea with the Bajan locals. Visitors to Bermuda can explore some of the cultural heritage this island retains, and stick around for a game of golf. Despite Bermuda’s distinctly non-Caribbean location, it is still considered a popular tropical location and is often grouped with other Caribbean islands. The sister islands of Antigua and Barbuda are also known for beautiful beaches and rich British history, as well as incredible sailing.

Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaao, known as the ABC Islands, are three of the Netherlands Antilles islands, located just north of Venezuela’s coast. With the added distinction of being outside the Caribbean’s “Hurricane Belt,” this trio of islands offers some unusual desert climates, fascinating history, and nature unlike anything you’ll find in the rest of the Caribbean.

Other Isles

The Dominican Republic, St. Lucia, Saba, Belize, and Dominica are known for their natural beauty. With mountains, rivers, tropical forests, and underwater scenes to explore, these relatively untouched locales provide ecologically-oriented travelers an especially rich and diverse set of Caribbean spots to explore. Each of these islands has a different culture and intriguing aspects. Whether you’re curious about The Dominican Republic’s popular surfing beaches or St. Lucia’s famous volcanic peaks, you’re sure to find something interesting to explore.

While it may be easy to visualize what some would consider a typical Caribbean island, it may take a little more effort to really pick one that is perfect for your stay. Every traveler has his or her own idea of what makes a great getaway, and building that trip is easy in the Caribbean. With just a bit of discernment, everyone can be satisfied on their vacation to the Caribbean.
